Red Bull’s Riccardo’s slow pit stop gave the world champion the lead, after starting third behind Ricciardo and Rosberg. “I’m kind of lost for words,” said Hamilton. “I prayed for a day like this and it came through, so I feel truly blessed.
“That was the longest run. It was crazy how long it was, to understand how much wheelspin you were allowed, because you don’t know how long the tyres are going to go. “Daniel drove phenomenally all weekend and it was a lot of pressure. I’m sure he’s not too happy but he should proud of the way he drove.”
Daniel Ricciardo did everything he possibly could do to win his first Monaco GP. The disheartening fact for him was his Red Bull team didn’t.
Ricciardo a cheerful and easygoing guy. This should not mean that his opinions are invalid. His team and pit crew are to blame for the Australian’s loss. Not having the correct tyres ready for him at the pit stop was the nail in the coffin. Despite his loss Hamilton praised him as “one of the best drivers I’ve driven against” which should not be taking lightly from a triple champion.
