The Irish International Freight Association (IIFA) beat the competition to host the 2016 World Congress of the Fédération Internationale des Associations de Transitaires et Assimilés (FIATA). And all of us at Spratt Logistics are extremely proud that our own Managing Director Pady Spratt Jnr. was invited to speak. This was a huge achievement for a family business in Ireland, and it gave us massive exposure to a worldwide audience of freight and logistics professionals.
Pady really shone representing Spratt when he spoke at the Young Professionals’ Forum at the 55th FIATA World Congress and joined a Q&A panel as well. He inspired and motivated other freight and logistics professionals with his insight and analysis of the field.
History of FIATA World Congress
The IIFA was selected to host this popular event back in 2013 when the FIATA met in Singapore after overcoming some fierce competition. Dublin had previously hosted the World Congress in 1981. The 2016 congress was held in the world class IFSC Convention Centre from 3rd to 8th October 2016. In recent years, the FIATA World Congress has also been held in Los Angeles, Istanbul and Taipei. Malaysia will host the World Congress next October, and India will have the honour in 2018.
FIATA is the non-governmental organization representing transport and logistics professionals around the world. It was founded in 1926. Today, the industry includes more than 40,000 companies employing an estimated 8 to 10 million people in 150 countries. The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (inter alia ECE, ESCAP, ESCWA), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) all recognize FIATA. As the world gets smaller, the transport and logistics sector will grow larger and larger. Spratt is proud to be part of this vibrant and essential industry.
