Why Canada?

Why has Canada become such  a popular destination for Irish emigrants?

Over the past decade Canada’s economy has taken off. A boom in national resources has led to a demand for manual labour, tradesmen, and construction workers in the North American country. Noticeably,  these are three sectors which took a large hit in Ireland during the recession.

Visas

Canada widened it’s visa access to it’s various visa programmes in order to take advantage of this but people thinking of moving to Canada ought still to do research. For instance, the International Experience Canada (IEC) Visa “requires people to have 2,500 Canadian dollars (€1,725) in their bank accounts on arrival” while candidates being in general good health is a factor for some visas.

Language

Then there’s the language barrier. Canada has two languages: English and French. If you don’t know a word of French it may be a struggle moving to rural Quebec. Choose a city and choose it wisely.
