Visas

Business and leisure trips to the States lasting up to 90 days don’t require a visa. If you want to work then you’re going to require one. There are numerous different visas open for potential emigrants, a lot of which are detailed here by Grad Ireland.

Where?

Only 46% of Americans are estimated to have passports. This is largely because there’s so much to do and see across the States that they see no reason to leave.

There are so many great locations in the US, which makes it difficult for emigrants to decide where to go. Ask yourself what do you want in a move. If you’re moving primarily for work then you’ll want to research employment rates across the big cities. Detroit, for example, traditionally has a high rate of unemployment. If you can’t handle the cold you may want to avoid Chicago. Which would you prefer, the skyscrapers of bustling New York City or the sandy beaches of sunny California? Whatever your motives, make sure to research locations and choose wisely.

Duration

Countless people have moved to America for a year…only to stay for good. Think long and hard about how long you want to stay for. Ensure that you have the savings to assist you should you not find immediate employment. If you’re moving permanently you’re going to need to ship much more stuff over.
